Machinist - Production Specialist

This is a key position within our Production team at MacTaggart Scott, reporting directly to the Production Supervisor. The primary objective of this role is to produce high-quality machine parts by operating manual machines or programming, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
Key Responsibilities- Planning and Machining: Study work orders, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters to interpret dimensions and tolerances.
- Programming and Setup: Enter instructions, including zero and reference points, set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, and calculate requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Equipment Operation: Load feed mechanisms, set up mills and lathes, and verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces.
- Maintenance and Quality Assurance: Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, and troubleshooting processes.
- Health and Safety: Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Complete preventive maintenance requirements, follow manufacturer's instructions, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Documentation and Communication: Document actions by completing production and quality logs, and maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Experience of reading engineering/technical drawings and making to specification.
- Experience in editing/proving CNC programs.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Proficiency in using a variety of measuring equipment.
- Ability to work in a busy environment, use initiative, and plan in advance.
