Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Oncology Prehabilitation Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis for a duration of 24 months. This role will focus on spearheading our Digital Health Optimization initiative aimed at supporting patients recently diagnosed with cancer.
You will collaborate with various cancer care teams and the Macmillan Integrated Cancer Care Lead, ensuring a cohesive approach to patient care.
Our organization manages over 7000 new cancer diagnoses annually across multiple hospital sites, highlighting the importance of this role in enhancing patient outcomes.
The primary objective of the Digital Health Optimization program is to guarantee that every newly diagnosed cancer patient has access to a dedicated health coach. After an initial assessment, a tailored health improvement plan will be developed, addressing key areas such as physical activity, emotional health, nutrition, quality of life, and self-efficacy.
Research indicates that digital health optimization not only prepares patients for cancer treatment but also contributes to an overall enhancement in their health and quality of life. This initiative aims to tackle existing disparities in access to prehabilitation services for cancer patients.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for leading the rollout of this program, which includes:
- Training and engaging clinical teams to integrate the program into their patient interactions.
- Collaborating with the cancer access team and Alvie Health personnel to ensure seamless patient list management, progress tracking, and outcome evaluation.
Your background should include experience in supporting cancer patients as a senior clinical nurse, with a comprehensive understanding of the profound effects a cancer diagnosis can have on individuals. You should also be knowledgeable about the advantages of prehabilitation in relation to treatment outcomes, overall health, and quality of life.
We seek a candidate who is self-motivated, capable of managing their workload independently, and adept at meeting deadlines. You should possess strong negotiation and influencing skills, particularly in complex and sensitive project environments.
Excellent communication abilities, proficiency in IT, and a proactive, flexible attitude are essential. We are eager to find someone who is passionate about implementing a program that significantly enhances the quality of life for cancer patients.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered General Nurse with NMC registration.
- Post-registration qualification in cancer, oncology, palliative care, or long-term conditions.
Desirable:
- Experience or in-depth knowledge of prehabilitation.
- Accredited clinical assessment and consultation course.
Knowledge & Experience

- A minimum of two years of experience in oncology settings, such as oncology wards, chemotherapy units, or outpatient services.
- Experience in educating patients and staff.

- Experience in managing complex cases related to diagnostics and long-term conditions.
- Training or experience in coaching, cognitive behavioral therapy, or motivational interviewing.
