Position Overview

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Lead EPMA Pharmacist, Pharmacy IT Systems Manager, and the Pharmacy IT team to ensure the effective operation of Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) along with other Digital Pharmacy systems.

This role encompasses the coordination of all IT-related systems within the Pharmacy department, which includes the development, installation, and support of both new and existing systems. The candidate will also be responsible for providing training and creating relevant documentation for pharmacy personnel, as well as acting as a liaison between software/hardware vendors and the internal IT teams.

Additionally, the role involves the daily oversight and management of pharmacy IT systems, including generating financial and statistical reports from these systems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct routine maintenance and provide support for pharmacy IT systems in collaboration with suppliers, internal IT teams, and designated pharmacy staff.
  2. Ensure data quality and reporting accuracy associated with pharmacy IT systems, particularly the Stock Control and EPMA systems.
  3. Design and implement training programs and materials for pharmacy IT systems.
  4. Lead, coordinate, and engage in the development of pharmacy IT systems based on the evolving needs of the pharmacy and healthcare facility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing all facets of pharmacy IT systems, ensuring effective communication with system suppliers and internal staff to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Support project management for upgrades to the electronic prescribing system, ensuring thorough testing of software functions prior to implementation.
  • Oversee the management of electronic prescribing files and parameters, conducting regular audits to maintain data integrity.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of standard operating procedures (SOP) and training materials to ensure pharmacy staff are proficient in using IT systems.
  • Deliver training sessions to pharmacy staff on the effective use of pharmacy IT systems.
  • Provide out-of-hours support for pharmacy IT systems when necessary.
  • Support the Lead Pharmacist in managing electronic prescribing and pharmacy IT systems.
  • Develop reporting solutions that align with departmental and Trust objectives.
  • Assist in the advancement of pharmacy automation initiatives as appropriate.
  • Perform dispensing and final checking duties as required to maintain competence and support operational needs.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services or equivalent experience in pharmacy IT.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Society where applicable.

Desirable:

  • BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking or equivalent.
  • Data Analytics qualification.

Experience

Essential:
