Position Overview:

MMP Consultancy is currently looking for a Principal Building Surveyor to support a Local Authority in West London. This role is a temporary ongoing contract with a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the provision of technical services for the Building Control Authority, ensuring adherence to building control laws and standards.
  • Safeguard public safety by enforcing building regulations, overseeing demolition projects, and managing temporary structures.
  • Coordinate the Council's actions regarding hazardous structures, collaborating with emergency services as needed.
  • Play a vital role in the leadership and management of the Building Control Authority, representing the department in corporate projects.
  • Act as the deputy for the Assistant Director of Building Control when required.

Core Duties:
  • Offer expert guidance on building safety, regulations, and structural concerns.
  • Assist the Building Safety Regulator in monitoring high-risk buildings and enforcing compliance.
  • Ensure the Council recovers costs for services in line with the Building Safety (Fees and Charges) Regulations.
  • Guarantee the training and competency of building inspectors.
  • Implement building regulations using the authority granted by the Building Safety Act and the Building Act.
  • Investigate and address violations of building work, issuing necessary notices and pursuing legal action when required.
  • Supervise the inspection and licensing processes for demolitions and temporary structures.
  • Evaluate fire safety information in planning submissions and provide compliance advice.
  • Serve as a third surveyor under the Party Wall etc Act.

Qualifications Required:
  • Essential: Class 3 Registered Building Inspector.
  • Class 3 Building Inspector registration.
  • Membership in MRICS, CABE, or a comparable professional organization.
  • A minimum of five years of post-qualification experience, ideally within a Building Control setting.
  • Management experience is preferred.
