We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our team at BAM Nuttall. As a key member of our Engineering and Design Team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing design management strategies that support our Pre-construction and Project teams across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with designers to ensure effective design management and delivery of projects.
  • Establish and promote best practices in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability, and quality.
  • Provide strategic advice and knowledge on design management best practices.
  • Identify, coach, and develop key staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Offer operational, strategic, contractual, and technical advice to bid preparation and project management.
  • Promote business processes for design management through training and guidance on NP20 design management procedures.
  • Implement 3D design delivery strategies to inform and deliver project BIM Execution Plans.
  • Manage delivery of guidance and service support to bid and project meetings.
  • Prepare, maintain, and communicate design commissioning, commercial, and delivery records.
  • Promote business in design and construct through personal contact with employers and stakeholders.
  • Keep management informed of design management activity and progress achieved.
  • Investigate emerging new techniques and technologies in design management and advise on suitable applications.
  • Raise the profile of BAM Nuttall in design management through conferences, seminars, and presentations.
  • Perform peer review of technical proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 requirements for internal and external designers.
  • Oversee residual design risk management frameworks and communicate residual design risks to risk owners.
Requirements
  • Practical experience in engineering, including use of IT and digital construction.
  • Knowledge of 3D Design Delivery Strategy.
  • Understanding of engineering principles, geotechnics, and structures.
  • Knowledge of design delivery processes gained through successful experience in design and design coordination roles.
  • Knowledge of project management processes gained through successful experience in project management.
  • Knowledge of design office work processes gained through successful experience in design delivery coordination.
  • For internal applicants, knowledge of NP20 (Design Management for design services), company procedures, guidance policy, and relevant government legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience of operating information management systems compliant with ES1192 and associated PAS1192 standards.
  • Knowledge of design standards and procedures, preferably with some knowledge and experience of temporary works systems, processes, and design in relation to BS 5975:2019.
  • Equivalent qualification and/or chartered engineer.
