About the Role

Cpl Life Sciences is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Data Centre Operations team. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and build of new data halls and data centres, ensuring compliance with established practices and procedures.
  • Produce reports and documentation on all aspects of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Manage the relationship with third-party colocation providers and their staff, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Review vendor RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) and MOPs (Methods of Procedure) to ensure adherence to safety practices.
  • Operate and manage routine and emergency services on critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to improve energy efficiency in the data centre.
  • Project manage operational aspects of the data centre, including asset and inventory management.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts and contribute to the growth of the team.
Requirements
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of work experience in a critical operations environment.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Good understanding of data centre critical infrastructure, including diesel generators, chillers, cooling towers, CHW systems, air handling units, UPS, HV/LV electrical distribution systems, fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS7671 18th Edition.
  • High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) experience.
  • 6+ years of data centre engineering/operations experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low voltage (copper/fibre) cabling.
