Position Overview:

Belcan is in search of a proficient Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to manage a team of design professionals tasked with developing cutting-edge design solutions from the initial idea to the final product. This position entails overseeing various project modules, ensuring that all mechanical design activities align with company standards, airframer specifications, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

In the role of Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be pivotal in advancing new product designs and their incorporation into the Product Life Management (PLM) system. You will guide a team of mechanical design engineers and serve as the main liaison for all mechanical design-related communications with clients and suppliers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the design efforts for different work packages or modules, ensuring effective development and management of tasks and deliverables.
  • Conducting design reviews and guaranteeing that engineering milestones are met within the designated timelines.
  • Utilizing your expertise to create intricate design concepts and mechanisms, along with detailed designs for seating components.
  • Leading the successful integration of these designs while applying best practices for product design.
  • Ensuring compliance through change management, design optimization, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and design for manufacturing.

Leadership and Development:

In this leadership capacity, you will also have the chance to mentor and develop junior design engineers, including apprentices and graduates, fostering their professional growth and success.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification such as HNC/HND.
  • Significant experience in mechanical systems design, including the development of conceptual and detailed engineering solutions.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aircraft seating and/or aircraft interiors.
  • High proficiency in CATIA V5 (or other 3D CAD software) and Product Life Management (PLM) systems.
  • Familiarity with key manufacturing processes, including sheet metal fabrication, plastics vacuum forming, and CNC machining.
  • Preferably, you will have demonstrated experience in leading or managing a team of mechanical design engineers.
