ENHANCED COMPENSATION FOR WEEKEND SHIFTS

Hours per week (Monday to Sunday)

The Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a leading surgical institution, focusing on specialized areas such as Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Burns treatment.

The primary responsibility of this role is to assist the Head Chef and Assistant Chef in ensuring the efficient operation of both the Main and Ward Kitchens. This includes preparing meals for patients, staff, and visitors while upholding a clean and sanitary environment in accordance with HACCP standards. Daily compliance documentation must be completed, and efforts should be made to maintain a 5-Star Food Safety Hygiene Rating.

As a member of the Catering Team, you will be dedicated to upholding our high standards of cleanliness and customer service. While experience in a similar position is advantageous, a positive attitude and teamwork experience are equally valued.

Main Responsibilities

Key duties include:

  • Ensuring the highest quality in food preparation and service, adhering to current legislation (HACCP).
  • Maintaining proper food storage practices, ensuring effective stock rotation and temperature control.
  • Upholding cleanliness standards in all areas, following departmental cleaning protocols.
  • Demonstrating due diligence in all operational procedures, including preparation, cooking, service, and storage, while ensuring compliance with HACCP and COSHH regulations. Daily checks of HACCP documentation completed by catering assistants are essential for achieving top food hygiene ratings.
  • Meeting the food preparation and distribution needs for patients, staff, and visitors to the expected standards.
  • Addressing queries and complaints from patients, staff, and visitors, escalating issues to the Head Chef and Assistant Chef as necessary.
  • Exhibiting moderate physical effort when handling catering equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Safety Management System when operating machinery and reporting any health and safety concerns to the Head of Facilities.

Qualifications

  • Food Safety Hygiene Level 2 & QCF Level 3.
