About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Logistics Manager to join our team at DS Smith Belper. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day management of the despatch department, including transport and forklift trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with site departments on a daily basis to discuss and resolve any issues.
  • Actively participate in improvement initiatives to optimize our supply chain and logistics operations.
  • Ensure that all transport requirements are met, including the management of inventory and stock levels.
  • Take overall responsibility for departmental Health & Safety, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure adequate communication exists between Logistics, Production, and internal departments to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Monitor stocks of pallets required internally and for finished goods, re-order with suppliers to ensure safe levels are maintained.
  • Carry out purchasing functions required by the business to ensure an efficient supply chain is maintained.
  • Identify and populate staff training matrices to ensure staff are multi-skilled in all departments.
  • Own the reel and board store storage areas, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard with high stock accuracy.
About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong focus on Health and Safety in the workplace, as well as high-level numeracy and literacy ability with excellent attention to detail.

  • A strong understanding of manufacturing to fulfill customer requirements via a warehouse.
  • Previous team management experience, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
  • Good understanding of the principles of pull planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good analytical, communication, time management, and process improvement skills.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel.
  • IOSH and ILM qualifications are advantageous.
