Logistics Operations Manager

About the Role
DS Smith is seeking a highly skilled Logistics Manager to join our team at our Belper site. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day management of the despatch department, including transport and forklift trucks.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with site departments to discuss and resolve any issues.
- Participate in improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure all transport requirements are met, including the management of stocks and inventory.
- Take overall responsibility for departmental Health & Safety, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Develop and maintain effective communication between Logistics, Production, and internal departments.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, reordering with suppliers as necessary to maintain safe levels.
- Carry out purchasing functions to ensure an efficient supply chain.
- Identify and develop staff training matrices to ensure employees are multi-skilled in all departments.
- Oversee the maintenance of reel and board store storage areas, ensuring high standards of stock accuracy.
About You
- A strong focus on Health and Safety in the workplace.
- High level of numeracy and literacy ability with excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to fulfill customer requirements via a warehouse.
- Previous team management experience, with a proven track record of success.
- Good understanding of pull planning principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent analytical, communication, time management, and process improvement skills.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel.
- IOSH and ILM qualifications are advantageous.
