Islay, Argyll and Bute, United Kingdom Scottish Ambulance Service Full time

Considering a career as a Paramedic in Scotland? We have an opportunity for you...

Are you looking for a new adventure? Or perhaps you have always dreamed of working amidst some of the UK's most breathtaking landscapes? Now is the perfect time to explore this opportunity in Scotland.

The Scottish Ambulance Service is actively seeking Paramedics to serve on the picturesque island of Islay. Our organization is evolving rapidly; over the past five years, we have integrated Advanced Paramedics in Urgent and Emergency Care, established a new clinical response framework, launched Critical Care Paramedics, initiated a fresh educational program, and significantly enhanced survival rates from Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) to globally recognized standards. We are now embarking on a transformative 10-year strategy aimed at sustaining these advancements and further enhancing the clinical services we provide.

This is an exhilarating time to become part of our Service, with numerous opportunities available for Paramedics throughout Scotland.

What are we looking for?

Candidates must be HCPC registered Paramedics with a C1 category on their driving license. This is essential as our fleet of emergency vehicles consists of modern Mercedes models with box body conversions, most of which are under five years old. While having an emergency driving qualification is preferred, we are willing to assist you in obtaining this if you do not currently possess it. Additionally, you will need to reside on the island, ideally within a short distance from Bowmore, so please ensure you can secure suitable accommodation.

More importantly, we seek Paramedics who are dedicated to delivering high-quality care to the people of Scotland. Our Paramedics are outstanding professionals with a genuine passion for their work. The Scottish Ambulance Service considers it a privilege to provide care for the people of Scotland, and if you share this sentiment, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.

Why choose the Scottish Ambulance Service?

We take pride in offering an emergency ambulance service to the residents of Scotland. Our workforce consists of 6,800 staff members operating from 150 locations, serving all mainland and island communities. Annually, we transport approximately 1 million patients to and from hospitals and facilitate 90,000 patient transfers between healthcare facilities. Our Air Ambulance conducts around 3,500 missions each year, and our SCOTSTAR service transfers 2,500 of Scotland's most critically ill patients.

How to apply?

To apply, please click on the 'Apply for job' button at the bottom of this page and follow the on-screen instructions. You will receive an automated confirmation upon submission of your application. Due to the current demands within the Service, there may be delays in processing your application; however, we will reach out to you once the shortlisting process is complete.

If you possess the necessary skills, experience, and enthusiasm to excel in this role, we look forward to receiving your application.

NHS Scotland is committed to promoting equality and diversity within our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. Our goal is to ensure that our workforce is truly representative and that every employee feels respected and empowered to perform at their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all segments of society.
