Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Deckhand to join our team at CalMac Ferries Limited. As a Deckhand, you will play a crucial role in the effective operation of our vessels, providing operational support to the deck and engine room departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with mooring operations, handling ropes and operating deck machinery as required.
  • Assist with vehicle deck operations as required.
  • Assist in general deck planned maintenance routines as directed by the Chief Officer or Leading DP Rating.
  • Duties as required by muster list in an emergency, including drills and emergencies.
  • Assist with directing passengers off the vehicle decks to the passenger areas, including directing mobility impaired passengers to and from the passenger lift.
  • Conduct bridge watch keeping duties and/or vehicle deck checks on passage.
  • Maintain the Engine Room and auxiliary machinery spaces in a clean condition and report to the Chief Engineer any leakage of oil or water which he may find.
  • Assist in any work connected with planned maintenance, breakdown of plant machinery or repair work being carried out by the Engineering staff.
  • Assist in keeping the machinery spaces as a safe working environment.
  • Assist the Engineering staff with bunkering duties.
  • Any other duties required by the Master and Officers.

Requirements

  • STCW II/5 Certificate of Competency as an Able Seafarer Deck.
  • Engine Room Watch Rating Certificate.
  • Navigational Watch Rating certificate.
  • Valid ENG 1 medical certificate.
  • ISPS Designated Security Duties Certificate.
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats Certificate.
  • Crowd Management Certificate.
  • Passenger & Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity Training Certificate.
  • Fast Rescue Boats.
  • MES.

Desirable

  • Effective communication skills and smart in appearance.
  • Experience acting up in the Higher Grade would be advantageous.
  • Be safety focused and familiar with CoSWP, permit to work and risk assessment processes within the company.
  • Be customer focused and have a clear understanding of the customer interface and have a proactive approach to customer care.
