Behaviour Support Assistant Role

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time role starts in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students who display challenging behaviour, helping them to engage positively in their learning
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour management strategies that promote a positive classroom environment
  • Provide one-on-one or small group interventions for students needing extra support with behaviour or social-emotional skills
  • Assist in developing and delivering personalised behaviour plans and monitoring student progress
  • Help students to understand and manage their emotions in a constructive way
  • Act as a role model for students, promoting respect, self-discipline, and positive communication
  • Support teachers in the classroom by managing behaviour and maintaining a focused learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with the wider school team, including the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), to ensure students' needs are met
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to support student success both academically and personally
  • Assist with de-escalation techniques in situations where students may be distressed or anxious
  • Contribute to the overall wellbeing and safeguarding of students in line with school policies

Requirements:

  • A strong interest in supporting young people with behavioural, social, or emotional difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Experience working in an educational, mentoring, or youth work setting is advantageous but not essential
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting students with challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a supportive school environment
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • An understanding of behaviour management strategies and how to apply them in a school setting
  • A relevant degree or qualifications in education, psychology, youth work, or similar fields would be beneficial but is not required
