Behaviour Support Assistant Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team at a 'Good' Ofsted-rated secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support for students displaying challenging behaviour, helping them manage emotions and engage effectively in lessons.
  • Work closely with the SENCo and pastoral team to develop strategies and interventions that address individual behavioural needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of behaviour support plans for students, helping them stay on track with their goals.
  • Help to manage classroom behaviour, working alongside the teacher to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
  • Assist with conflict resolution and mediation between students to promote a respectful and inclusive school culture.
  • Provide mentoring and emotional support for students, helping them build resilience, self-esteem, and confidence.
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and other staff to ensure they receive the necessary support.
  • Encourage positive behaviour through reward systems and regular feedback to reinforce good conduct.
  • Support students during unstructured times such as breaks or lunch, offering guidance and maintaining a calm environment.
  • Liaise with parents and carers as required, providing updates on progress and behaviour management strategies.
Requirements:
  • A genuine interest in supporting students with behavioural difficulties and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach, with the ability to remain consistent and fair when managing challenging behaviour.
  • Previous experience working with young people in an educational or support setting is desirable but not essential.
  • An understanding of behaviour management strategies or a willingness to learn and apply them in the classroom.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to the wider school community.
