Materials Scientist

This is an exciting opportunity for a university student to join our Materials Science team at AWE plc for a 12-month placement. As a Materials Scientist, you will be working on a range of projects that involve the development and characterisation of materials for various applications.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and characterise new materials for laser target applications, including foam and aerogel materials.
- Investigate and develop alternative materials for control triggered electrical breakdown.
- Apply analytical methodologies to assess the properties of organic, inorganic, and metallic materials.
- Synthesise inert precursors for direct in-flow, high-purity synthesis of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN).
- Perform experimentation and apply chemistry and/or materials science knowledge to further understand material behaviour in complex multi-material systems.
- A passion for materials development and/or analytical chemistry.
