Position Overview
The Forestry Commission oversees an extensive area of public woodlands and national parks, managing a diverse ecosystem that is vital for both conservation and timber production.
Our woodlands yield approximately 100,000 m3 of timber annually, with a significant portion being high-quality hardwood. The land management team is dedicated to a comprehensive habitat restoration initiative, focusing on ancient woodlands and lowland heath, which are crucial for biodiversity and wildlife.
We are seeking a skilled Forestry Craftsperson to contribute to the management of a significant woodland area characterized by a mix of ancient broadleaf and coniferous trees. This role is integral to the ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the natural landscape.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of practical tasks aimed at forest management and maintenance, including:
- Executing tree planting and vegetation management.
- Conducting fencing and gate installation.
- Performing chainsaw operations and timber measurement.
- Utilizing maps and surveying tools for effective land management.
This position requires a proactive approach to working outdoors in various weather conditions, utilizing a range of equipment safely and effectively. Comprehensive training and necessary personal protective equipment will be provided.
Essential Qualifications
