As a Regulatory Officer - Industrial Regulation, you will be part of the Cumbria and Lancashire Installations team, working with businesses to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring permit compliance and assessing operator ability to protect the environment
  • Preventing pollution and optimizing resources across various industrial sectors, including landfill, food and drink, chemicals, and paper and pulp
  • Using technical and leadership skills to influence and negotiate with industry stakeholders, local communities, and other interested groups
  • Responding to and investigating environmental incidents, and taking enforcement action when necessary

About the Team

The Regulatory Team (Installations) in Cumbria and Lancashire works flexibly across the area, regulating sites in various industrial sectors. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work with experienced professionals and contribute to the development of our regulatory practices.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience and knowledge of one or more industrial sectors
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to develop good relations with difficult people and situations
  • Ability to manage multiple demands on time and prioritize tasks to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans
  • A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach
  • Flexibility in approach, with a 'can do' attitude
  • Ability to make decisions and solve technical problems
  • Thorough knowledge of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing, with a positive and proactive approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate technical leadership
  • Ability to work in teams to support colleagues in achieving common goals
  • Ideal education to degree level or equivalent, or comparable technical knowledge and experience
