Inverness, Highland, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

About Us

At Scottish Water, we are dedicated to ensuring the sustainable management of Scotland's waste water. Our operations involve the careful treatment of waste to produce biosolids, a valuable by-product that can be recycled and utilized effectively.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Specialist to enhance our Waste Management division. This position will focus on the coordination of biosolid recycling efforts across various operational sites, particularly in the northern regions of Scotland. Your expertise will directly benefit farmers, local councils, and private landowners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with agricultural stakeholders to identify optimal fields for biosolid application.
  • Maintain and expand a landbank portfolio suitable for biosolid recycling, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of biosolids and soils to determine appropriate application rates and nutrient management strategies.
  • Perform risk assessments considering environmental factors such as proximity to water sources and land gradients.
  • Plan and schedule biosolid applications to align with storage capacities at Sludge Treatment Centres while delivering exceptional service to clients.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance with the Overall Performance Assessment (OPA) and the Water UK Biosolids Assurance Scheme (BAS).
  • Manage financial budgets and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee supplier performance with a strong emphasis on health and safety standards.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach, coupled with exceptional organizational abilities to effectively prioritize tasks. You should have a solid analytical mindset and a willingness to expand your technical knowledge.

Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, is essential. The role may require physical activity, including hiking across varied terrains for soil sampling, so a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

Experience in a Sludge Treatment Centre or familiarity with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is advantageous.

Work-Life Balance

We recognize the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Our employees enjoy generous holiday allowances, flexible working arrangements, and family-friendly policies to support major life events.

Compensation

This position is classified as Grade 6, with a competitive starting salary and opportunities for performance-based progression.

Final Note

We encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet every requirement. We are committed to making our recruitment process accessible and accommodating for all candidates.
