Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Consultant in Paediatrics to join our dedicated team.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to become part of a vibrant and supportive paediatric department. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality acute paediatric and neonatal care.

Main Responsibilities

The Foundation Trust serves a diverse population, providing essential healthcare services.

This position is designed to enhance the existing team of consultants, focusing on the provision of acute paediatric and neonatal care. The appointee will engage with patients across various outpatient facilities and collaborate with specialists in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, urology, and allergy.

Our paediatric surgical services are available on-site, complemented by a state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Department, which includes a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Care Centre. All urgent admissions for children are managed here, featuring an assessment area equipped with multiple cubicles.

Job Duties

The Child Health Directorate is an integral part of our Surgical Division, encompassing all aspects of Paediatric and Child Health services in both acute and community environments. Strong collaborative relationships exist between acute, community, and mental health providers to ensure integrated child health services.

This role offers the chance to work closely with both community and acute paediatric services, with opportunities for hybrid roles. We are looking for proactive individuals to join our team.

The successful candidate will manage outpatient services across various community sites, with additional clinics available for specialist consultations.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their training.

An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of completion of training
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Current APLS and NLS provider certificates

Desirable:

  • Higher qualifications such as MD or PhD
  • APLS and/or NLS Instructor certification

Skills

Essential:

  • Expertise in managing a wide range of general paediatric and neonatal conditions
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • Experience in safeguarding
  • Proven track record in audit
  • Understanding of NHS management responsibilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in supervising junior staff

Desirable:

  • Participation in relevant professional meetings and courses
  • IT and computing proficiency
  • Previous management experience
  • Membership in relevant professional societies

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Engagement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Familiarity with research methodologies

Desirable:

  • Attendance at courses focused on teaching and mentorship
  • Evidence of recent research contributions

Additional Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong communication skills with patients and families
  • Leadership capabilities in service development

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated leadership development within the workplace

Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of 2 years of general professional training in Paediatrics
  • Safeguarding Level 3 training

Desirable:

  • Specialist experience in specific areas of Community Child Health
