About the Role:

The Clerk of Works position is situated at the Sunbury Campus, reporting directly to the Senior Clerk of Works within the engineering division. This role is crucial for overseeing the safety protocols for all operations on site, including the issuance of permits for various high-risk activities such as hot works, working at heights, and excavation. The successful candidate will provide essential health and safety guidance to technical, facilities, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor both high and low-risk activities conducted on site, collaborating with contractors, project managers, engineering teams, and soft services personnel.
  • Utilize the electronic permit system to manage and issue building permits.
  • Authorize permits for high-risk tasks, ensuring compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Review and provide feedback on Risk Assessments and Method Statements submitted by work owners and contractors.
  • Draft Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the engineering team.
  • Engage with contractors and work owners on a daily basis to ensure safety compliance.
  • Conduct daily safety audits of ongoing work.
  • Participate in regular job-related training sessions, including topics such as management of work at heights and hot works.
  • Collaborate with a team of two other Clerks of Works.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to high-risk activities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Comfortable interacting with clients, contractors, and senior management.
  • Proficient in IT applications including Word, Smartsheet, and Excel.
  • Capable of performing well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the facilities management sector.
  • IOSH certification obtained within the last two years.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience issuing high-risk permits and certifications such as IPAF and PASMA.
