Senior Legal Counsel, Energy and Regulatory Expert

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the company's existing energy contracts to ensure timely renewal and termination negotiations.
- Provide expert advice on contentious matters and litigation related to the company's energy portfolio, with assistance from external counsel as needed.
- Stay up-to-date on key regulatory and legislative developments in the energy and utilities sectors and provide training to relevant teams on their implications for the company's energy portfolio and projects.
- Collaborate with the company's energy procurement team to advise on and negotiate:
- Major energy supply and service agreements.
- Physical supply contracts.
- Commodity hedging arrangements.
- Energy CAPEX contracts and related supply agreements.
- Energy subsidies, with a focus on EU legislation.
- Energy sale agreements.
- Carbon reduction agreements.
- Agreements related to GOs and PPAs.
Net Zero CAPEX Projects:
- Support major CAPEX projects, particularly those focused on energy.
- Advise project teams on legal issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with the energy and CAPEX teams to identify potential future decarbonisation opportunities.
- Manage external counsel to ensure cost-effective legal support is provided where required.
- Provide expert advice on key development, construction, commercial, service, and supply agreements in conjunction with external counsel.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of PQE with in-depth experience of working on a range of energy-related legal matters and a strong understanding of key legislation and regulation governing the energy and utilities sector.
- In-house experience is beneficial but not essential.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to apply it effectively.
- Intellectually sound with a strong analytical mind.
- Hard-working, task-oriented, and a team player.
- Grounded, collaborative, and comfortable engaging at all levels of the organization.
- High energy and commitment, with the ability and willingness to travel and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
