Assistant Engineering Manager Job Description

Murphy & Sons Limited is a leading international engineering and construction company seeking an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to join our award-winning Energy team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Aid the Engineering Manager in supporting all engineering activities on and off site for the business unit.
  • Manage day-to-day engineering activities and appoint suitable resources to complete works.
  • Act as Assistant Engineering Manager on projects, consulting and engaging with Technical Leads/external engineering expertise as required.
  • Manage project design teams and their deliverables in line with key milestones.
  • Ensure quality checking and approval procedures are carried out.
  • Develop effective delivery processes to improve design deliverables to time, cost, and quality.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in formulating project strategies and solutions.
  • Supervise and coordinate design management across a portfolio of projects.
  • Prepare scope of work for engineering subcontracts.
  • Provide technical support to supply chain management.
  • Support Quality, including producing design quality plans, providing VDDRs, reviewing ITPs, attending key FATs, and attending QA audits on designers.
  • Promote and participate in engineering innovation and BIM solutions to clients.
  • Manage and pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function.
  • Support the business unit in work winning, providing technical support in bids, with the application of engineering and design management.
Requirements:
  • Experience in HV Substations and HV Transmission, Civil Engineering, or Oil and Gas.
  • Relevant coordination experience in the civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering industry.
  • Member of a professional engineering institution or working towards (IStructE / ICE).
  • Knowledge of project management processes gained through successful experience of contract management.
