Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Medical Secretary to join our team at South Tyneside Health Collaboration. The successful candidate will support our clinical team by carrying out a range of secretarial services, including actioning incoming correspondence, clinically coding data, and creating referral letters.

Main Duties
  • Action all incoming correspondence, emails, and mail in a timely manner
  • Accurately clinically code data on the clinical system into the patient record
  • Identify relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, code appropriately, and complete any detailed action
  • Input and extract data as required to support practice reports
  • Create referral letters and process referrals
  • Filing and storing records as required
  • Photocopying documentation as required
  • Scanning patient-related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient healthcare records
  • Inputting data into patient healthcare records as necessary
  • Answering incoming telephone calls, transferring calls, or dealing with the caller's request appropriately
  • Carrying out system searches as requested
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
  • Supporting all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

About Us

South Tyneside Health Collaboration is a GP Federation and valued system partner, set up to bring together South Tyneside General Practices to work collaboratively in delivering services at scale across the borough of South Tyneside.

We manage two general practices, one in the beautiful coastal village of Whitburn and another, a developing training practice in central Jarrow, with a combined list size circa 8,500.

Person Specification
  • Essential qualifications: Educated to GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above) or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of working with the public
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
  • EMIS/SystmOne/Vision user skills
