Job Overview

As a vital member of the Information Services IT team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing enhancements to current bespoke software solutions, as well as creating new, user-friendly, high-quality software applications based on user requirements and thorough analysis of business logic, primarily for the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences (MVLS) within the University.

Key Responsibilities
1. Collaborate in the design and assess the impact of any changes in business processes on relevant development systems, evaluating requirements to create and deliver suitable technical solutions.
2. Design, develop, and test new systems, producing comprehensive design specifications and documentation, ensuring that the delivered system meets user requirements and expectations at every stage.
3. Implement and support systems, whether developed internally or through third-party packages for the aligned college.
4. Provide ongoing support, maintenance, monitoring, and enhancements to existing systems to ensure consistent availability of services and to meet the evolving needs of users.
5. Assist system users in resolving day-to-day issues that may arise from technical problems or business-related challenges.
6. Prepare and conduct user training and familiarization sessions for both new and existing systems.
7. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure adherence to technical and professional standards.
8. Stay updated with new technologies and continuously enhance your skills.
9. Contribute to the strategic planning of Information Services.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:
A1 A qualification at Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent, in an IT or related field, along with experience in personal development in similar roles. Educated to Degree level in IT or a related discipline.
A2 In-depth knowledge of systems design, utilizing design tools to specify complex systems involving technologies such as RDBMS, web development tools, and security modules.
A3 Proficient in programming languages: C# .Net, CSS with Bootstrap.
A4 Comprehensive knowledge of RDBMS: SQL Server, Management Studio, SSIS packages.
A5 Familiarity with development tools: code repositories (e.g., TFS, GitHub), IDEs (e.g., Visual Studio), frameworks (.net Core, MVC, Entity Framework).
A6 Understanding of methodologies: analysis and design (e.g., UML, Agile).
A7 Knowledge of JavaScript libraries such as JQuery and Data Tables.

Desirable:
B1 Familiarity with business tools: MS Project, MS Visio.
B2 Project management experience: PRINCE2.
B3 Knowledge of testing tools such as nUnit.
B4 Experience with ASPX web forms using VB and C#.
B5 Knowledge of PHP and MySQL.
B6 Familiarity with Delphi.

Experience

Essential:
E1 A proven track record in systems analysis and application development, participating in all stages of the system development life cycle, or the ability to demonstrate the competencies required for this role through relevant knowledge and skills acquired in similar Software Development/IT positions.

Desirable:
F1 Experience in designing, developing, and troubleshooting dynamic ASP web pages.
F2 Familiarity with Team Foundation Server.
F3 Experience with design methodologies.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.

This position is offered on a full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent) basis. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
