About the Role

The NIHR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Manager to lead the delivery of the Global Health Research (GHR) Centres programme. This is a key role that requires a strategic thinker with the ability to see the bigger picture and balance the needs of different stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver proportionate and effective monitoring approaches for the GHR Centres programme
  • Management of a portfolio of funded GHR projects
  • Produce scheme level Annual Reviews
  • Represent the team in cross-NIHR MEL focussed activities
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Lead commissioning activities for future funding calls
  • Flexible support to the team
Line Management:

The post holder will be responsible for the line management of one fixed-term Research Manager, and will matrix manage other team members, where appropriate.

What You Will Bring to the RoleQualifications
  • Experience of managing and monitoring ODA funded research activities in international and fragile contexts.
  • Demonstrable experience in complex stakeholder management, within and across multiple organisations with the ability to employ diverse approaches to effectively communicate complex information to individuals and groups from a range of different backgrounds and different seniority levels.
  • Experienced line manager; able to develop and guide junior staff within matrix management environments.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Specific experience of research management in biomedical and health research disciplines.
  • Experience in leading research commissioning activities.
  • Experience of delivering participatory Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation activities.
  • Experience of working with UK Government and/or international policy makers and senior decision makers.
