Job Description

Role: Mechanical Design and Production Engineer

Level: Graduate to Mid-Level (5 years of experience)

Location: Northampton

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design and Production Engineer to join our team at People Source Consulting trading as Experis. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge imaging technology for science, industrial, and space applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical design support for the development of products
  • Create conceptual and detailed designs for vacuum-compatible and in-vacuum camera systems using 3D CAD
  • Generate manufacturing drawings for parts and assemblies, and support procurement and processing
  • Maintain good quality control and positive supplier engagement

Daily Tasks:

  • Mechanical design of camera system hardware and mechanical ground support equipment
  • Generate and maintain mechanical CAD-related documentation
  • Support externally procured thermal and shock/vibration modeling services and analysis of designs
  • Generate inputs to project lifecycle reviews/reports
  • Support mechanical procurement activities and supplier engagement
  • Create, maintain, and implement mechanical production processes
  • Commission and test MGSE set-ups
  • Support structural testing of hardware

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Practical experience working as a mechanical engineer
  • Proficient in Solidworks and Solidworks Simulation
  • Good IT skills and proficient using Microsoft Office
  • Proactive and self-managing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of mechanical design and operation of vacuum systems
  • Experience of working in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience of FEA and/or thermal analysis
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working in an SME or start-up environment

Working Arrangements:

  • Onsite role
  • 5 days a week, 9am - 5pm
  • Willing to work in the office every day in Northampton
