Position Overview

The Director of Global Taxation will oversee and manage the international tax strategy and compliance for our global operations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Tax, this role includes managing a team of six direct reports across various jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with robust leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of international tax regulations and their implications. This position will involve a focus on U.S. international income tax accounting, compliance, and planning, alongside leading tax accounting, compliance, controversy, and planning for non-U.S. jurisdictions. The responsibilities will encompass 40% international tax accounting for SEC reporting and statutory financial statements, 40% tax research, planning, transfer pricing, and intercompany transactions, and 20% tax controversy.

Work Environment
  • Flexible hybrid work model, combining virtual and in-office work.
  • Travel requirements of approximately 25% (once per quarter) for both domestic and international engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and execute global tax strategies to enhance the company's tax position while ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide strategic tax counsel and insights to senior management and stakeholders regarding international business initiatives, including market expansions, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational restructuring.
  • Oversee international tax compliance, including the preparation and review of tax returns, transfer pricing documentation, and other compliance obligations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals across various regions, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture.
  • Stay informed on changes in international tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company's tax strategy.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and tax authorities on international tax issues, audits, and disputes.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, commercial, operations, supply chain, and other departments to support global business initiatives from a tax perspective.
  • Monitor and manage tax risks associated with international operations, implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review U.S. international quarterly and year-end tax provision calculations.
  • Review non-U.S. quarterly and year-end tax provision calculations.
  • Inform the Director of U.S. & Global Consolidation of potential international tax risks and uncertainties.
  • Establish and enforce operational controls for U.S. international and non-U.S. tax provision and compliance processes.
  • Understand U.S. international tax calculations (e.g., Subpart F, FTC, GILTI) and ensure accurate recording in interim and year-end tax provisions.
  • Maintain optimal transfer pricing policies reflecting the evolution of U.S. and foreign business operations, partnering with the Finance & Accounting team to ensure proper accounting of intercompany transactions.
  • Oversee the overall tax processes from global tax managers and their respective jurisdictions.
  • Direct transfer pricing planning, including OECD BEPS and CbCR initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification.
  • Significant demonstrable experience in international tax within a multinational corporation or public accounting firm.
  • Strong technical knowledge of international tax principles, including transfer pricing, tax treaties, and cross-border transactions.
  • Experience with OECD initiatives, including BEPS and Pillar 1 & Pillar 2.
  • Experience with U.S. SEC reporting and SOX compliance.
  • Experience managing a team of tax professionals across different regions or countries.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with ONESOURCE Tax Provision.

Desired:
  • Master's degree and/or JD or LLM with a focus on taxation.
  • Background in public accounting, corporate tax, or a combination of both within the Energy sector.
  • Previous experience with a large-scale global organization.
  • Experience with indirect tax, including VAT/GST.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft.
