Role Summary
The Global Tax Director is tasked with the strategic oversight and management of international tax compliance and strategy for our global operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Tax, this position includes leadership of a team of six direct reports responsible for various jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, exceptional leadership skills, and a profound understanding of international tax laws and their implications. Key responsibilities will include managing U.S. international income tax accounting, compliance, and planning, as well as directing tax accounting, compliance, controversy, and planning for non-U.S. jurisdictions. The role will allocate approximately 40% of time to international tax accounting for SEC reporting and statutory financial statements, 40% to tax research, planning, transfer pricing, and intercompany transactions, and 20% to tax controversy.
Location and Travel
- This position offers a hybrid work environment, allowing for both remote and in-office work.
- Travel is expected to be around 25%, occurring quarterly on both domestic and international trips.
- Formulate and execute global tax strategies aimed at optimizing the company's tax position while ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
- Provide strategic tax counsel to senior management and stakeholders regarding international business ventures, including market expansions, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational restructuring.
- Oversee international tax compliance, including the preparation and review of tax returns, transfer pricing documentation, and other compliance obligations.
- Lead and develop a team of tax professionals across various regions, promoting a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Stay informed on changes in international tax legislation and evaluate their effects on the company's tax strategy.
- Coordinate with external advisors and tax authorities on international tax issues, audits, and disputes.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, commercial, operations, supply chain, and other departments to support global business initiatives from a tax perspective.
- Monitor and manage tax risks related to international operations and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Review U.S. international quarterly and year-end tax provision calculations.
- Review non-U.S. quarterly and year-end tax provision calculations.
- Communicate potential international tax risks and uncertainties to the Director of U.S. & Global Consolidation.
- Establish and enforce operational controls for U.S. international and non-U.S. tax provision and compliance processes.
- Understand U.S. international tax calculations (e.g., Subpart F, FTC, GILTI) and ensure proper recording in interim and year-end tax provisions.
- Maintain effective transfer pricing policies that reflect the evolving nature of U.S. and foreign business operations, partnering with the Finance & Accounting team to ensure accurate accounting of intercompany transactions.
- Oversee the overall tax process from each global tax manager and their respective jurisdictions.
- Direct transfer pricing planning, including OECD BEPS and CbCR initiatives.
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification.
- Extensive experience in international tax within a multinational corporation or public accounting firm.
- Strong technical expertise in international tax principles, including transfer pricing, tax treaties, and cross-border transactions.
- Familiarity with OECD initiatives, including BEPS and Pillar 1 & Pillar 2.
- Experience with U.S. SEC reporting and SOX compliance.
- Proven experience managing a team of tax professionals across various regions or countries.
- Proficient in MS Office and knowledgeable in ONESOURCE Tax Provision.
- Master's degree and/or JD or LLM with a focus on taxation.
- Background in public accounting, corporate tax, or a combination of both within the Energy sector.
- Previous experience with a large-scale global organization.
- Knowledge of indirect tax, including VAT/GST.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement tax strategies that align with business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior executives and external stakeholders.
- Adept at thriving in a fast-paced, global environment and managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to foster an inclusive culture that promotes equity and ensures all team members' voices are valued.
- Proficient in identifying and driving improvements in data, technology, processes, and best practices.
