Overview of the Role:

As a Special Educational Needs Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the academic development and inclusion of students with special educational needs. Working closely with educators, special education professionals, and other stakeholders, you will contribute to creating a supportive and positive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized assistance to students with special educational needs, modifying teaching strategies and resources as necessary.
  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of individualized education and behavior plans in collaboration with the SEN Coordinator and teaching staff.
  • Partner with educators to tailor instruction and promote an inclusive classroom setting.
  • Encourage the participation of students with special needs in mainstream classroom activities.
  • Engage with colleagues to exchange important insights regarding student progress and challenges.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents to provide updates on student growth and collaborate on home support strategies.
  • Design and modify educational resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Identify and incorporate suitable assistive technologies in partnership with teaching staff.
  • Foster independence and self-advocacy skills among students with special educational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs, preferably in a mainstream educational environment.
  • Understanding of various special needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators.
  • Patience, empathy, and a sincere commitment to fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
