About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Intelligence Specialist to join our team at Swindon Borough Council. As a key member of our Public Health team, you will play a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting health-related data to inform decision-making and drive health improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, gather, and analyze health-related data applicable to public health issues using statistical methods.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to obtain complex datasets.
  • Lead on the identification of public health needs using various methodologies.
  • Provide specialist health intelligence input to public health, the Council, and NHS in monitoring the health needs of the population and in strategic planning.
  • Support the work of the Director of Public Health and Public Health Directorate in ensuring that health intelligence, evidence, and good practice are incorporated into commissioning and service evaluation processes.
  • Develop wider public health capacity by communicating and promoting health improvement messages through presentations, evidence-based practice, audits, and published research.
  • Produce, develop, and maintain information systems and analytical expertise for key staff and services/directorates.
  • Provide advice and guidance to senior managers on a broad range of issues and propose remedial actions.
Requirements
  • First degree in a numerate discipline (or demonstrate equivalent experience or degree equivalent).
  • Knowledge and understanding of statistics and statistical methods relevant to health and the limitations of such methods.
  • Knowledge and understanding of epidemiology including key population health concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrable experience of using statistical/analytical and/or epidemiological techniques to analyze and interpret data for both specialist and generalist audiences.
  • Understanding of the wider determinants of health and some knowledge of approaches to reducing health inequalities.
  • Knowledge of local authorities, NHS structures, and of the arrangements for providing healthcare in England.
  • Knowledge of wider public sector bodies that impact on health.
  • Work experience in a health, public services, research, public, or charitable organization or other public-facing environment.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, ensuring that milestones and deliverables are achieved to time and to high quality.
