Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Functional Skills Tutor to join our team at Dovetail and Slate. As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education to adult learners in a prison setting.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals who are incarcerated. As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of our learners. Your primary focus will be on teaching Maths and English skills, up to Level 2, to equip our learners with the necessary skills to enhance their employability and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver high-quality lesson plans that meet the needs of our learners
  • Assess and evaluate learner progress, making adjustments to lesson plans as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective education program
  • Provide individualized support to learners, addressing their specific needs and goals
  • Stay up-to-date with current teaching and learning strategies, incorporating best practices into your teaching
Requirements:
  • Five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics
  • A Degree, or professional qualification, relevant to the role
  • Teaching Qualification (or willingness to obtain within the first two years of service)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
