Role Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned Deputy Data Compliance Officer who is ready to take on a new opportunity and leverage their enthusiasm for data governance within a vibrant and forward-thinking organization. As an integral part of our team, the Deputy Data Compliance Officer will be instrumental in shaping and ensuring adherence to UK data protection laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

In the capacity of Deputy Data Compliance Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert, practical, regulatory, and legal advice to guarantee the execution of policies, processes, and controls in accordance with UK data protection legislation.
  • Exhibiting a comprehensive understanding of UK data protection laws and regulatory frameworks, supported by a proven history in the sector (ISEB/CIPPE qualification is advantageous).
  • Delivering compliance assistance for data protection, which encompasses conducting monitoring reviews and managing extensive customer data sets in a B2C context, particularly concerning marketing initiatives.
  • Implementing Privacy by Design and Default principles, performing Data Privacy Impact Assessments, and independently evaluating data breaches.
  • Demonstrating exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, nurturing relationships both internally and externally, and effectively managing key stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with various departments, including Compliance, Legal, InfoSec, and other business units, to pinpoint and execute legal and regulatory requirements related to data protection laws.
  • Reviewing and advising on the formulation of compliance-related policies, procedures, processes, and controls, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assisting with Data Sharing Agreements (DSA) and contractual obligations.
  • Working alongside the Risk & Compliance team to deliver comprehensive support to the organization.
  • Facilitating the identification, investigation, management, and resolution of compliance-related challenges.
  • Preparing relevant compliance reports to satisfy both internal and external regulatory obligations.
  • Engaging with operational business teams to inform and advise on data protection responsibilities.
  • Monitoring adherence to UK-GDPR and other data protection regulations, conducting internal data protection activities and compliance evaluations.
  • Ensuring proper registration under the law and maintaining an active article 30 register of processing activities, driving audit and data management initiatives.
  • Managing data privacy incidents, identifying root causes, implementing mitigations, and monitoring to avert recurrence.
  • Collaborating closely with the business to integrate data protection compliance into transformation projects.
  • Overseeing the subject access request process and individual rights, identifying and assessing data processing activities.

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive under pressure, adapt to uncertainty, and manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Demonstrated experience in the realm of data protection, ideally with an ISEB/CIPPE qualification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of PECR.
  • Your subject matter expertise will be vital to your success, with a focus on compliance support and monitoring evaluations.
  • Prior experience in a B2C environment, particularly with extensive customer data sets and marketing.
  • Strong grasp of UK data protection legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in Privacy by Design and Default, Data Privacy Impact Assessments, and managing data breaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build and sustain relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to achieve business objectives.
