About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Advisor to join our team at Wessex Water. As a key member of our Regulatory Flow team, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining the highest standards of water quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and analytical support to the Regulatory Flow team, enabling the identification of trends in performance and compliance to facilitate early rectification.
  • Monitor and assess changes in relevant environmental regulations, guidance, and codes of practice, and communicate the implications for Wessex Water to ensure timely compliance with minimal cost and risk.
  • Represent Wessex Water at professional, industry, or regulatory bodies to share information and best practices, monitor and evaluate technical, regulatory, and related implementation issues/developments, and identify best practices to maintain and improve compliance.
  • Establish, maintain, and communicate policies and quality management systems to ensure we understand and meet our environmental quality objectives and regulatory outputs.
  • Advise, influence, and support Area Scientists and Area Operational teams in achieving required standards, handling significant incidents, and liaison with Regulators (e.g., Environment Agency).
  • Liaise with Engineering and Operations on capital schemes.
  • Plan and manage the MCERTS certification program, while also identifying upcoming sites and booking in MCERTS site inspections.
  • Assist with collating and reporting compliance with statutory quality regulations for internal and external contacts, including coordinating correspondence to and from external regulators.
Requirements
  • A degree or equivalent in a science or STEM subject.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant environmental regulation, including EPR legislation, EPA, the Water Industry Act, UWWTR, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of wastewater treatment processes.
  • At least five years' experience in a relevant field, with a proven record and experience in managing a team.
  • Understanding of structure and implementation of quality management systems.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, and outside the organization, such as regulators, technical bodies, and the public.
  • Effective communication and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Decision-making skills.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Suite.
  • Detailed knowledge of wastewater processes.
  • The ability to represent us to industry and professional bodies.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of budget control and finance principles.
