About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced financial leader to join our team as Executive Director of Financial Services.

This is a leadership role with responsibility for the largest Local Government budget in Scotland, ensuring the Council's financial stability and resilience for the short and longer term.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of financial management planning, and of leading several multi-disciplinary teams in a large complex public sector organisation to achieve its statutory obligations and ensure its financial stability.

The role will suit a dynamic leader with a relevant professional qualification and a strong understanding of financial management principles.

The Executive Director of Financial Services will be responsible for leading a diverse portfolio that includes Corporate Finance, Audit & Inspection, Assessors & Electoral Registration Office, Strathclyde Pension Fund and a range of front line and back-office support services.

The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a workforce of approx. 4,000 employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Council's financial strategy
  • Oversee the management of the Council's budget and financial resources
  • Ensure the Council's financial stability and resilience for the short and longer term
  • Lead a diverse portfolio of services, including Corporate Finance, Audit & Inspection, Assessors & Electoral Registration Office, Strathclyde Pension Fund and front line and back-office support services
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of financial resources

Requirements:

  • Relevant professional qualification, such as a degree in finance or accounting
  • Proven track record of financial management planning and leadership
  • Strong understanding of financial management principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a workforce of approx. 4,000 employees
