This role involves close collaboration with children, their families, and various stakeholders, including staff and external agencies, to deliver a spectrum of services aimed at safeguarding children from potential harm.

The successful candidate will conduct assessments alongside Family Support Workers both at our Centre and within the community.

As a Family Support Social Worker, you will possess significant experience in working with children and families within a statutory framework, alongside proficiency in safe practice methodologies. A proven history of conducting thorough and analytical parenting evaluations, as well as providing court testimony, is essential. You should also be well-versed in current legislation and guidelines relevant to child welfare.

Your role will involve fostering meaningful relationships with the families and children we serve, ensuring that assessments are fair, thorough, and evidence-based. In addition to assessments, you will assist parents in enhancing their parenting capabilities through direct intervention sessions, immediate verbal feedback, regular written or pictorial updates, and consistent meetings with families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and mentor Family Support Workers
  • Evaluate parenting capacity while considering the child's wishes, rights, and the issues necessitating social worker involvement
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain comprehensive records for various requirements, including court proceedings
  • Participate in the Social Worker role as part of the Centre's operational schedule
  • Act as a deputy for the Registered Manager when required
  • Conduct parenting sessions aligned with assessment criteria
  • Uphold the ethos and values of the Centre
  • Build positive relationships with families, colleagues, and other health and social care professionals
  • Effectively plan and organize workloads
  • Exhibit strong administrative skills and computer proficiency
  • Commit to ongoing personal development to enhance service delivery
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to a diverse range of service users and respond to their varying needs
  • Implement the Centre's policies, procedures, and directives
  • Ensure continuous quality improvement in placement planning and risk assessment processes
  • Support staff in developing placement plans and goals for children, young people, and families
  • Assist in addressing daily safeguarding and risk management challenges
  • Help staff prepare for and participate in key meetings, case conferences, and reviews
  • Maintain and strengthen connections with Local Authority Officers and Services

Person Specification:

  • Post-qualification experience working with children and families in a statutory context
  • Experience in Court/Safeguarding Teams

  • Excellent observational and assessment skills related to child development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA in Social Work
  • MA in Social Work or equivalent
