Job Title: Early Years Assistant - Deaf Support

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Early Years Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a profoundly deaf 3-year-old child at our Teddies Loughton Nursery.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the child, nursery staff, teachers of the deaf, and speech and language professionals to develop the child's communication skills in sign and spoken language.

You will also supervise the child during play activities to ensure their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to the deaf child in a 1:1 relationship
  • Develop the child's communication skills in sign and spoken language
  • Supervise the child during play activities to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Work closely with nursery staff, teachers of the deaf, and speech and language professionals
Requirements
  • Signature Level 2 Qualification in British Sign Language
  • Signature Level 2 Certificate in Communication Support Work for Deaf Learners or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with children ideal but not essential
  • Passion for making learning fun and engaging for each child
  • Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with colleagues and parents
  • Ability to use a variety of communication techniques with children and adults
  • Sound understanding of child protection and safeguarding
