We are seeking a skilled and flexible Porter to join our team at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. As a Porter, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality support to our hospital, working with minimal supervision to cover a range of duties including Courier, Portering, Theatre, Cleaning, and Security tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and deliver items needed by the hospital from/to other hospitals or facilities around the local area.
  • Provide a taxi service to patients and Spire executive staff as required.
  • Deliver blood units to Theatres and Ward in accordance with local working instructions.
  • Clean, wash, and refuel the company car.
  • Undertake all portering duties to agreed standards and procedures, including transportation of patients/goods/sets/equipment/linen/medical gases, clinical/general waste, mail distribution, general cleaning, and security duties.
  • Collect and return patients to and from Theatres/Ward/Short Stay Suite/Imaging Department (bed/wheelchair/walking). Assist with slide transfer in Imaging Department as required.
  • Set up and dismantle tables and chairs in the restaurant for functions as arranged.
  • Carry out tasks from the weekend jobs list.
  • Retrieve medical records from external on-site storage cabin when medical records staff are not on duty.
  • Deliver morning papers to patients and internal departments.
  • Order linen on designated days and order from BOC when required via Pharmacy.
  • Participate in Porters' meetings if on duty and keep up to date with information in the Porters' folder.
  • Clear all waste from Theatres Department and dispose of it in designated areas, ensuring liaison with CSSD for appropriate timing of collection and disposal of clinical waste.
  • Collect pre-ordered meals for Consultants and staff as needed and take to Theatre Rest Room.
  • Maintain Theatre Lounge supplies (plastic cups, tea, coffee, and milk, etc.).
  • Manage linen collection, distribution, and storage as required, including Theatre caps and masks.
  • Monitor and maintain stocks of fluids daily (saline, water, etc.) as required, including stock in warming cabinets.
  • Monitor and maintain Blood Fridge – disc to be changed every Monday and alarm and disc checked and recorded daily.
  • Assist other Porters on duty when not active.

Requirements:

  • Able to adopt a flexible attitude towards duties, which may be varied subject to the needs of departments.
  • Clean driving license.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Happy to be in a position involving manual handling duties (moving beds/furniture, etc.).
