Saica Group is a leading manufacturer in sustainable recycled paper, corrugated cardboard, and flexible packaging, with a strong commitment to waste management and recovery solutions. Our Flex division specializes in producing flexible plastic films, catering to major food retailers and suppliers.

We are seeking a dedicated Print Assistant to join our dynamic team, assisting the Lead Printer in the operation of flexographic printing machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and operation of printing equipment, ensuring optimal performance while adhering to health, safety, environmental, hygiene, and housekeeping standards.
  • Promptly log and clean any spills, maintaining compliance with site health and safety regulations.
  • Support the implementation of lean manufacturing practices, including SMED and 5S principles, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage press consumables to ensure a steady supply, including the loading and unloading of master reels and inks.
  • In the absence of the Lead Printer, operate the press and ensure smooth transitions during shift handovers.
  • Engage in general cleaning and maintenance of printing equipment, collaborating with colleagues in other departments to uphold production standards.
  • Exhibit flexibility by supporting other production areas as needed, including operating additional machinery.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Partially or fully trained Printer, preferably with experience in flexographic printing.
  • Relevant Print NVQ Level 2 or 3 is advantageous.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, ideally at GCSE level in English and Maths.
  • Previous experience in printing, particularly with solvent-based inks, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Fischer Krecke 126S, 20SIX CS color printers, or BOBST printers is a plus.
  • Experience in mounting is beneficial.
  • Background in manufacturing, specifically in label or packaging printing.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of quality, health, safety, and environmental standards in a production environment.

Shift Pattern:
The role operates on a 12-hour shift basis across a 2-week rotation:

  • Week 1: 4 days (Tuesday to Friday) from 6 am to 6 pm
  • Week 2: 3 nights (Tuesday to Thursday) from 6 pm to 6 am
