James Lewis Recruitment is currently supporting a prominent client in their quest for a Mechanical and Electrical Cost Consultant to join a well-established M&E Contractor with over 24 years of industry experience.
This privately owned Mechanical & Electrical Building Services contractor specializes in a variety of services including Design & Build, comprehensive M&E services, HVAC, IT infrastructures, CCTV, security systems, access control, and fire alarm installations.
The company prides itself on its commitment to sound practices, quality installations, and close collaboration with clients across diverse projects, including commercial, educational, residential, healthcare, and data centers, with project values reaching up to £20 million.
Key Responsibilities of the M&E Cost Consultant:
- Conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labor costs.
- Act as the primary contact to thoroughly understand the project's commercial requirements, evaluating various options to meet them and proposing optimal solutions in a professional manner.
- Oversee cost management throughout all project phases until financial closure and during construction.
- Provide assistance as needed regarding cost evaluations, procurement, and variation advice.
- Accurately report and monitor to ensure precise monthly forecasting and cost reporting to the Commercial Manager.
- Manage the procurement of subcontractor packages and present selections for approval by the Commercial Manager.
- Review all project variations and claims.
- Minimize costs while enhancing value for money on projects, ensuring compliance with required standards and quality.
- Monitor all project costs and cash flow, including preliminaries, through the approval and sign-off of orders and the review of applicable invoices.
- Prepare monthly client payment applications and ensure receipt of client certificates in line with completed work and cash flow status.
- Evaluate subcontractor payment applications to ensure fair valuations in accordance with site progress and contractual agreements.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, along with a minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience in the M&E sector.
Additionally, a demonstrable track record in reviewing technical drawings for variations, valuations, and take-offs is essential. Further required skills include strong analytical abilities, effective communication, team management skills, a positive work attitude, a high level of professionalism, and proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel.
Please note that applications will only be considered from candidates with a robust background specifically in M&E, rather than general construction experience. The client welcomes both Intermediate and Senior level applicants.
