The primary objective of this position is to support the Site Engineering Manager in overseeing a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role operates on a 4 Days On, 4 Days Off shift pattern, managing engineering teams that work on a continental shift schedule, ensuring continuous coverage within a large-scale manufacturing facility that produces high-volume, high-quality products.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe operation of personnel, machinery, and equipment.
  • Oversee engineering permits to work, including contractor management and monitoring as necessary.
  • Guarantee that Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks are completed to a high standard using the Shire system for precise planning and tracking, while continuously challenging and enhancing PPM processes with shift teams.
  • Coach and develop team members' knowledge, skills, and standards.
  • Complete Piranha Reports for all tasks performed by yourself and your direct reports.
  • Evaluate engineering staff utilization and completion rates for both planned and unplanned tasks in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Take ownership of identified countermeasures, planning and implementing them accordingly.
  • Enhance the knowledge of shift teams and leverage functional support from the broader engineering team.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis for failures.
  • Focus on the top three issues weekly in accordance with production KPIs.
  • Manage visitors and service providers effectively.
  • Participate in tier meetings, supporting business units and their teams.
  • Foster relationships with shift leaders and production managers to facilitate smooth shift operations and reporting.
  • Assist the engineering manager in developing and ensuring compliance with engineering quality and safety standards.
  • Engage in detailed communication with all team members during weekly meetings.
  • Develop a training matrix for shift leaders and engineering teams.
  • Conduct performance reviews and implement personal development plans.
  • Proactively ensure actions are taken to minimize downtime and enhance efficiencies.
Qualifications & Skills Required
  • HNC or higher qualification.
  • Advanced Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) qualification.
  • General awareness of site services.
  • Experience with maintenance systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with appraisal systems (PDPs).
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical processes.
  • Understanding of electro-pneumatic systems, hydraulics, and conveyor systems.
  • Experience in root cause analysis.
The Ideal Candidate
  • A natural leader with the capability to drive change.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering/maintenance.
  • Previous experience in a similar role at an equivalent level.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to cultivate strong working relationships.
