Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineering directors, workshop managers, and supervisors in managing labor and material expenses in accordance with the engineering budget through Daily Spend and Repair Cost analysis reports.
  • Collaborate with the local stores manager to optimize stock holding levels.
  • Advise and support workshop managers/supervisors in overseeing subcontracted engineering tasks and any contractors or third parties on site.
  • Support workshop managers/supervisors in maintaining full staffing levels for both skilled and semi-skilled personnel, promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • Conduct daily briefings with supervisory staff to review workshop performance against established targets.
  • Manage workshop managers and supervisors to enhance staff productivity through effective communication, empowering them to achieve targets, encouraging self-development, and setting clear performance goals.
  • Perform skills assessments of all Engineering Workshop Managers/supervisors and develop tailored training and development plans for each staff member.
  • Ensure optimal fleet reliability and maintainability while adhering to licensing obligations.
  • Monitor and support apprentices to ensure compliance with the training and development program.

Qualifications:

  • Essential experience as a Bus Mechanic / PSV Technician / HGV Fitter
  • Ideally possess a formal qualification to NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • PSV Driving Licence is desirable
  • Experience in the Bus and Coach sector is preferred but not mandatory
