Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated and inspiring tutors to support children and young individuals facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Many of these students have experienced disengagement from their educational journey.

Our mission is to assist pupils who have encountered difficulties in remaining in the classroom, those who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, or whose needs are not adequately addressed within traditional school settings.


As a Specialist Tutor focusing on SEMH, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and delivering personalized one-on-one lessons aimed at bridging educational gaps and enhancing academic performance.

You may possess prior experience as a tutor or teacher, or have worked with children in a supportive and therapeutic capacity.

Your primary goal will be to help re-engage students in their learning process, restore structure to their daily routines, and facilitate their educational growth, ultimately guiding them back to a mainstream or specialized school environment.


The tutoring sessions will serve as an alternative to traditional schooling for these young individuals and are typically part-time, occurring during standard school hours, five days a week.

Prospero Teaching will collaborate closely with you to track each pupil's progress by requesting weekly updates.


Contract/Position Details:

  • Location - Various locations

  • Duration - Until the pupil is ready to reintegrate into a mainstream or specialized educational setting
  • Contract type - Temporary
  • Full-time/part-time - Part-time (minimum of 10 hours per week, per student)
  • Minimum rate of pay - GBP25 per hour (negotiable)
  • Working hours - Flexible, based on family availability
Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Relevant UK classroom teaching experience
  • Training in PECS or Makaton is preferred but not mandatory
  • Creativity, patience, and the ability to think outside the box
  • Experience in managing challenging behavior and engaging with disengaged pupils
To qualify for this role, candidates must:

  • Have the legal right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to apply for a new one
  • Provide two professional references related to child care.
