GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Professional to join our team at a Special Educational Needs School in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of primary-aged students with diverse learning needs. You will work closely with a small group of students, providing tailored support that fosters their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support to primary students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs, as well as social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Encourage independence by assisting with life skills such as cooking and basic financial management.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement strategies that address sensory, speech, language, and communication needs.
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment by managing classroom behavior effectively and utilizing de-escalation techniques to address challenging situations.
- Offer assistance with personal care tasks as required.
Requirements:
- Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
- Possess at least six months of experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a school setting.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
- Exhibit compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to help young people overcome their challenges.
- Have a valid DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please note: This role requires a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Successful applicants must undergo all necessary background checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
