Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY //

We are seeking a qualified attorney with a strong background in compliance to join our Legal, Risk, and Compliance division as a Regulatory Compliance Counsel. This is a permanent, full-time position.

The Legal, Risk, and Compliance division is led by the firm's General Counsel, with support from the Head of Financial Crime, Head of SRA Regulation, and Head of Legal and Risk, comprising a dedicated team of approximately 30 professionals. This role will report directly to one of these senior leaders.

PRIMARY DUTIES //

The primary duties of this position are outlined below, and additional responsibilities may arise as needed. Occasional work outside standard hours may be required.

  • To cultivate and maintain expertise in SRA and other pertinent regulations and legislation impacting the firm's operations, establishing connections and networking with regulators, representative organizations, and peers in other legal practices as necessary.
  • To monitor advancements in the compliance sector and proactively recommend enhancements to the firm's compliance-related policies and procedures, leading or supporting initiatives aimed at implementing these improvements.
  • To assist partners and other fee earners in reviewing client agreements and drafting engagement letters, while proposing enhancements to the firm's standard engagement templates and terms of service.
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the firm's policies and procedures, and to create standard forms addressing core compliance issues, including regulatory aspects related to anti-money laundering, sanctions, business acceptance risks, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, insider lists, trading regulations, ethical barriers, and anti-bribery measures.
  • To address routine inquiries from fee earners and Business Services personnel on a wide array of legal, risk, and compliance matters.
  • To support Business Services in procurement activities, including the review of supplier agreements.
  • To assist the Compliance Services team with inquiries arising during the firm's business acceptance processes, including client due diligence.
  • To aid Compliance Services in conducting monitoring activities to ensure the firm's compliance-related policies and procedures are functioning effectively and to identify potential areas for improvement.
  • To design and deliver training sessions internally at all levels on essential compliance topics, with opportunities to engage in external training at industry events or for the firm's clients.
  • To support the Legal, Risk, and Compliance team in addressing the growing array of legal, regulatory, and risk challenges that impact the firm's operations.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS //

Applicants for this role must possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience as a legal practitioner.
  • Outstanding academic credentials.
  • Experience working within a compliance function in a City or large national law firm.
  • A comprehensive understanding of law firm management and operations.
  • The ability to establish trusted relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional legal technical knowledge.
  • The capacity to quickly grasp new legal concepts.
  • The ability to make independent decisions.
  • Experience in generating and compiling accurate documentation.
