Job Summary

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a leading healthcare provider in South East London, offering a wide range of services across its five main sites. We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Pharmacist to join our team, working closely with our specialist and principal pharmacists to lead the clinical pharmacy service for our surgical and ophthalmic services.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and effective medication management, collaborating with surgeons, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals, and providing clinical expertise and support to patients and staff. They will also be involved in managing pharmacy operations, developing innovative services, and contributing to the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the clinical pharmacy service for surgical and ophthalmic services, working closely with specialist and principal pharmacists.
  • Ensure safe and effective medication management, including the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical expertise and support to patients and staff.
  • Manage pharmacy operations, including the development and implementation of innovative services.
  • Contribute to the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services, including the provision of clinical pharmacy input and the development of prescribing guidelines.
  • Act as a deputy for the Principal Pharmacist when necessary.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of pharmacy service developments.
  • Develop, implement, and audit prescribing guidelines for use within the division.
  • Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist Surgery, Trauma, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology & Dental where necessary.
  • Participate regularly in multidisciplinary ward rounds and assist in the further development of the pharmacists' role within the Care Group.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and audit of evidence-based prescribing guidelines.
  • Ensure services provided are in line with local and national policies, guidelines, and frameworks.
  • Contribute and adhere to clinical pharmacy service standards.
  • Proactively support the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services to clinical areas in order to advance the safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective use of drugs.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmacy, with experience in clinical pharmacy and leadership roles. They will be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a postgraduate certificate in pharmacy practice or equivalent qualification. A registered independent prescriber or willingness to complete is desirable. The candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
