Position Overview

Role Objective

The Actuarial Trustee Services division delivers a comprehensive suite of actuarial and defined benefits pension advisory services to pension scheme trustees, scheme sponsors, and various external entities. This team also extends its expertise to provide non-pension actuarial evaluations and guidance to other sectors within the organization. The position entails collaborative efforts with colleagues in Investment Management, Broadstone, and other external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with colleagues from Investment Management, Broadstone, external third-party administrators, and clients.
  • Participating in select external meetings alongside a senior team member.
  • Facilitating direct communication with clients through various channels.
  • Ensuring all tasks are executed in alignment with Broadstone's established standards.
  • Reviewing data preparation activities conducted by junior staff, identifying and rectifying discrepancies as necessary.
  • Executing and assessing technical calculations related to individual pension scheme members for peer review, including early/late retirement estimates, trivial commutations, and transfer values.
  • Conducting and evaluating technical calculations pertinent to pension schemes for colleague review, including actuarial valuations and the preparation of accounting disclosures under FRS 102, IAS 19R, and either ASC 715 or US GAAP.
  • Proposing enhancements to existing operational practices to boost efficiency.

Technical Expertise and Professional Credentials

  • Successful completion of several actuarial examinations required for qualification as FIA or FFA.
  • Willingness to continue progressing through actuarial examinations.
  • Fundamental understanding of actuarial valuations and accounting disclosures under FRS 102, IAS 19R, and either ASC 715 or US GAAP.

  • Capacity to quickly assimilate technical information.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Adhere to all relevant professional standards.
  • Meet the FCA's requirements concerning the Senior Managers & Certification Regime, Treating Customers Fairly, and the new Consumer Duty.
