We are in search of a Chemistry Engineer to play a vital role in the formulation and execution of chemistry protocols for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) operational site. In this capacity, you will assist in a wide array of chemistry-related domains within the HPC initiative to guarantee thorough coverage as required. Your responsibilities will encompass supervising laboratory constructions, ensuring the application of chemical safety standards, providing expert chemistry support, and instilling best practices throughout the project.

Once operations commence at Hinkley Point C, you will engage in all chemistry-related functions on-site. Your contributions will align with the objectives of the UK EPR chemistry programme, aiming for world-class standards by benchmarking against leading industry practices.

Key Responsibilities...

Generate chemistry-related documentation. Develop chemistry specifications for the operational power station. Plan and supervise the construction, fitting, and commissioning of the HPC site chemistry laboratory. Address chemistry-related design inquiries as needed by the project. Formulate and implement chemical safety processes, standards, and training to ensure compliance with legislative and organizational requirements. Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) guidance on chemistry during construction, commissioning, and operational phases. Support and oversee the creation of the operational chemistry training program. Collaborate with external stakeholders regarding chemistry, including regulators and industry working groups.

Candidate Profile...

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a chemistry-related discipline. Familiarity with chemistry quality assurance requirements in an operational power station. Knowledge of UK chemistry-related safety regulations, including COSHH, COMAH, REACH, and DSEAR. Strong understanding of chemistry principles pertinent to nuclear power plant operations. Experience in developing and executing new processes. A scientifically curious mindset with a willingness to learn.

You may also possess the following:

Comprehensive knowledge of systems in a Nuclear Power Station that support or contribute to chemistry control and chemical safety management. Proven experience in making operational decisions based on chemistry and plant data. Proficiency in developing and delivering chemistry training programs. Expertise in drafting technical chemistry documentation. Experience working within a project organization. A successful track record of interacting with nuclear and environmental regulators. Understanding of safety cases and safety analyses. Knowledge of fundamental scientific principles of laboratory instrumentation. Strong appreciation of the objectives of power plant chemistry. Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
