Rail Grinder Fitter / Operator Role

At Colas Rail, we value diversity and inclusivity in our workplace. We're seeking a skilled Rail Grinder Fitter to join our team, working as an Operator/Fitter for our Grinding machines. As a mobile role, you'll have the opportunity to work across the country, following the machine to various locations. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing the machine, assessing work requirements, and ensuring plans are achieved to meet specifications while maintaining health, safety, and environmental safeguards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate or maintain the machine safely and effectively, as instructed by the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist with 2nd man/fire watch duties on grinding operations.
  • Report any machine defects to the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor, as necessary.
  • Collect data output from the machine, where applicable.
  • Work safely and effectively to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
  • Assist with daily maintenance duties, including chipping and blowing.
  • Complete daily Work Return Forms.
Person Specification
  • Recognized formal apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
  • Core competencies in Foundation Course, Machine Setup, and Pack away for Operation Grinding Railgrinding maintainer for Operations/Maintenance competence matrix.
  • Valid driving license.
  • PTS.
  • Fire training.
  • Emergency First Aid.
  • Depot/Yard Inductions.
  • Basic Laser Safety.
  • COSS.
