Experimental Scientist

We are seeking a talented and motivated placement student to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As an Experimental Scientist, you will be part of a small group of experienced laser-plasma scientists working on cutting-edge research projects.
Key Responsibilities- Support the delivery of experiments using the Gemini laser
- Work on facility development projects to enhance the quality of research conducted at the Central Laser Facility
- Contribute to the design, construction, and testing of hardware and/or software to enhance the quality of research
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025
- First two years of degree course in physics, or a closely related subject, with grades corresponding to a 2:1 or higher
- A-level Maths or equivalent
- A-level Physics or equivalent
As a placement student at STFC, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting research projects, develop your skills and knowledge, and contribute to the delivery of experiments using the Gemini laser.
