Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to lead the Medicine and Surgery Occupational Therapy Team at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

We are seeking an enthusiastic OT with operational and clinical leadership qualities, effective communication skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to work under pressure.

Main Duties of the Job

The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for Medicine and Surgery - Team Lead is responsible for working closely with the Head of Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Operational Lead, and other clinical colleagues/managers to ensure:

  • the provision of leadership, supervision, professional consultation, guidance, and advice to the Medicine and Surgery Occupational Therapy Team
  • the planning, delivery, evaluation, and review of an effective Occupational Therapy service by the Team to Medical and Surgical patients at the Princess Royal Hospital
  • the professional representation of Occupational Therapy in the planning, development, and evaluation of clinical services within our acute medicine service, holding responsibility for defined projects in agreement with the Head of Occupational Therapy, Therapies Site Lead, and Professional Lead
  • the management of a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions
  • the professional representation of the Occupational Therapy Service as a whole, to include deputising for the Occupational Therapy Operational Lead in liaison with other Team Leads in their absence

Key Responsibilities

To support the Head of Occupational Therapy, Therapies Site Lead, and Clinical Lead with the induction, training, development, and appraisals of the other members of staff

To contribute to the recruitment and induction of Occupational Therapy staff and other staff as appropriate

To identify training needs and develop training sessions to meet the needs of the team

To provide training to staff and students on specialist topics such as equipment and resources, as agreed with the Head of Occupational Therapy

To be responsible for the allocation of Occupational Therapy students within the Team

To be responsible for the supervision and written assessment of allocated Occupational Therapy students

To provide clinical supervision to other members of the Occupational Therapy Service, as agreed with the Occupational Therapy Professional Lead
